Am feeling girly!!!

I hope you chaps can help......

My hubby would like a tiller for his Birthday to help break up some of the clay clods down on the lottie. I just don't know where to begin!! !!

I know that it can't be too big and heavy, as we will have to store it at home (zero security at lottie), and have to be able to pick it up to put in the back of the car.

The budget would have to be around £300 max - is it possible to even buy one for this amount? Any suggestions on where to look / websites, etc?!

Also, can't be electric!

Apologies for being such a wet blanket!

Have a look at the mantis tiller advertised on the home page, I've got one and they are a great bit of kit very light and easy to store but they tend to get clogged a little quick if the grounds too wet.

Forgot to say I have the 2 stroke version  :D

Mantis!  Very light but surprisingly good says my lotty mate.  My lotty neighbour has one too and she loves hers.  She brings hers in the car and has to carry it all the way down to the plot which is quite a trek but it's very light. It comes with all sorts of attachments so that would give your OH sommat to play with

OOOhhh!! Many thanks for the info! Will have to show OH those - let him choose, then I can't get it wrong.

With the risk of sounding even more dim .... what is the difference between a 2 and a 4 stroke engine?

A four stroke engine is like the one in your car. You put in neat petrol in the fuel tank, and engine oil in the engines sump.
a two stroke engine needs two stroke oil mixed in with the petrol, and the engine has no other place to put oil.
Two stokes can be used at different angles and are generally lighter and cheaper to build. hence the price of the tools tends to be a little less. :D
Ryobi make a little tiller that can have other atachments fitted (like the mantis ) and so do Stihl. :D

Hi Frog

I have a baby Honda one which is not too heavy to put in the boot. also 4 stroke, and has atachments if you want them.
We have been very happy with it.
