How do I know?
« on: August 04, 2008, 17:34 »
How do I know if the eggs that my broody is sitting on are about to hatch?  I havn't candled them, is it ok to do it now, she has been sittingon them for 18 days....what would I see at this stage? should I look at all at this stage?  Do I just find babies or is it quite a slow process???

On the negative side at how many days do I deceide nothing is going to happen with any of them?

Not an expert but in my experience all you would see at this stage would be a black egg and the bright air sac although you would be able to tell the difference between that and the transillumination of a non fertile one. You wouldn't be able to see much else unless they are pipping and you can see movement in the airsac. In all honesty I wouldn't risk upsetting your broody this close to the end (although I couldn't resist peeking at mine in the incy  )
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
