Cluckingham manor - Finished and ready for residents
« Reply #15 on: July 30, 2008, 09:35 »
We had a lady posted on freecycle the other week for wood for a 'project'!  So I emailed her and told her about the old door and window frames we get, so up she comes with hubby and the kids to take what was any good, as she wanted to make a chicken coop and run. She got the cladding from somewhere else, plus pallets from hubby's work (in the meantime she has also reserved 6 of the October Amberlinks!!!)  and she popped round sunday to show us the photo's of the house SHE has made all on her own and never done anything like it before, and all things considering, she has done a brilliant job of it!

Not as professional looking as your lovely coop planner, but very good for a first timer!

The only problem with a lot of the bought coops, is they look okay, but many can't stand up to much use and fall to pieces a year or 2 afterwards!

The only thing I would say planner is the perches look a little thin, they should be at least 2in with chamfered edges on top, and Brian says, not in a cross, as they will probably all congregate in the middle of the cross, as they like to be close together, so straight perches are best.

Thanks for the advice Grannie Annie - I will look to redesign the perches later in the week.
Originally I was going to have one across but trying to find the ideal place inside and avoid draughts etc was proving difficult using the existing walls (very thin), however I have an idea to place two perches across.

Can I send my girlies over for a 5* luxury holiday. All it needs now is a sea view. Is it Egon Ronay recommended?

Congratulations. So excited for you. They are some spoilt birds
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Planner, if my girls see your beautiful housing they will set off walking and flapping to stay with you and I see that you must be close enough for them to be there within a day
