grr thievings bar swtewards!!!
« on: July 17, 2008, 20:55 »
Well i finally went over to the plot today after a terrible day at my children's school, in the peeing down rain to plant out my Jerusalem Artichokes and broccoli when i notice something missing.

Some thieving bas /*/*/* has nicked my newly bought compost bin. Could not believe it    i mean who steals a bin!!!!

So i go off around the rest of the site searching for it, i see some suspiciously new looking bins in one plot, going over again tomorrow to have words.
When another fellow plot holder comes up and says are you all right love? I explain what happens and says the rotten people and proceeds too give me a very old one of his. I was so surprised and grateful and starts offering me cups of teas. Can't help but feel grateful they some nice people out there.

Sorry about the rant.

That's terrible Kez... at least there's still one kind soul out there  :)

What will you say to the person with the new bins?  I wonder if it's coincidence or if the 'theives' have put them in his plot to watch the sparks fly if it is indeed yours?  :?

Some people will steal anything not screwed down.  :(  personally, id go back in the dark and take it back, and take it home. Maybe both of them.

Make a compost bin out of three pallets lined with black plastic. They are unlikely to run off with that.

Seems awful that fellow plotters would stoop that low to be honest.  Perhaps it is just coincidence?  Nice to hear that there was a friendly person about though.  Focus on that to be positive rather than the meanies that stole from you.

I know exactly how you feel Kez.
I only got my alloment in may and worked like mad to get everything planted in time.  For the past couple of months, watching everything grow has been fantastic. That is until i went to my plot last night.  Some b*****d has been digging up my spuds, pulled some carrots (which are nowhere near ready yet) and left them laying on the ground.      The worst thing is he has stomped all around my courgettes and has taken half of them, even though they are still tiny.
I am not the only person on our site this has happened to and most people on our site know who it is, (he has done it in the past) but the commitee still won't get rid of him.
I am thinking of lacing some things with laxatives in the hope he will get those.
If he does, it might make him think twice about stealing from me!!!
Finally got the space, now just nead the girls!!

I have to say I am always staggered at the amount of stories I hear on here about other allotmenteers stealing from people.
The general gist always seems to be "we and everybody else knows who it is but we can't/won't do anything about it".

Why not?

If I had my produce/belongings disappear to only re appear on someone elses plot I wouldn't think twice about going round to them and "having a word"... and I wouldn't care less what a commitee thought of it.

Stealing is stealing........... and thieving b*stards need to be shown they can't get away with it.
First timer, NOT enjoying the backache anymore!

I'd bloomin well be the one at the front of the mob with a flaming torch and pitch fork (well, a wind up light and a digging fork anyways) to chuck someone off who was proven to be stealing from other tenants

What are the chances that your "new bin" just didn't blow away Kez? These bins when empty do "walk" as I discovered. Large stones on the lid prevent this . I thought some lowlife had nicked my bins until i discovered them washed up on the loch shore!

I've had green recycling bin taken twice- but they'll get a nasty surprise if they try to steal my latest one- for starters its so heavy its immoveable and thats because it is filled up with fresh horse manure!

Well the given compost bin still there so far *fingers crossed*

The person who i think has stolen is apparently a thieving a little so and so and in the past has been been caught stealing leeks out of people gardens, i only just found this out today.
My original compost bin was tied to a fence, and was housed near 1/2 blue barrel, which luckily is still there. So unfortunately mother nature did not take it, i personally would have been if that was the case. Nature i can forgive its just the lower denomination of the human race.
The council of course know all about the thieving blighter but won't evict him because his garden is in a good state of repair   so unfair.

so new plan the kids have decided to decorate the bin as a darlek emperor with bright red paint and bits and bobs stuck all over it, now all i need is a bit of dry weather!  :D
Thanks for all your advice everyone :)

sorry to hear about stuff being knicked from your lottie.  I had a statue of a greek lady in my garden, she was cemented onto a concrete plinth which was wired into the ground.  she was a present many years ago from OH and special to me.  One Monday morning a couple of months ago
she had gone (and she sure as heck didn't walk off on her own)  What a
coincidence though that this happened a few days after men were doing our cavity wall insulation.  Ah well, nothing it seems is sacred.  You had better dig your veg deeper or maybe thy'll go as well!!  Mrs Bouquet.
