Blanching basket
« on: August 05, 2008, 21:04 »
My mother used to have a stainless steel basket - sieve like thing that sat in the boiling water pan, that she used for blanching vegetables. This was great as she could transfer things from the boiling water to cold and get the next batch into the basket and straight back into the boiling water.

Does anyone know where I can get one?

You can buy a chip pan basket from wilko's  that would do the job  :D

Yeah, I have been looking at chip pan baskets. To be honest I havent had such a thing ever and I keep wondering about what size pan you need, never got to measuring or anything of course.

The thing is the *specialist* basket my mum had has magical properties in my mind!

Thanks for the suggestion though. I might try that as they are not expensive.

I just use a metal sieve
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

That's what I'm using 99p from wilkinsons.  Peas fall through it though

They cost about £12-15 on-line but the peas don't fall through

Aunty could you do your peas in a metal sieve? Might need a shallower pan, or more water in a deeper pan, but better than £12!

And if I spend loads of money on that site (the link didn't work BTW) I'll blame it on you!

Don't need a basket to blanch my one pea that makes it that far.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
