I have grown half pint peas.  the plants are as the packet said small just about 8" high, which is fine as don't know if I will like them or not yet.  

Anywho
I have some pods.  How do you know when to pick just when they look fat enough.  I have read you pick from the bottom first.

Generally crops ripen from bottom to top as they flower slowly from bottom to top as they grow. When to Pick? I feel several pods first to see if they're full or slightly full, then I pick a few, open them to see if I'm right. Ofttimes the pods have thick skins rather than ready peas so I'll wait a few more days and try again. But don't let the pods get very full or the peas are tough. Enough seem to be ready at the same time for picking.
