Ex Bat Red Botty!
« on: June 23, 2008, 18:57 »
One of my rescue hens has developed a very red (and hot) rear end. She has not got any feathers on her nether regions and they always were a little pink but today it looks much worse.
She is eating, drinking and is walking about fine. I am not sure if she is laying as they seem to lay anywhere at any time ( I've got five of them together) She is not being bullied as she seems to be top of the pecking order! Any ideas? Should I put some baby bottom  cream on it?

I don't think it's anything to worry about unless she's being pecked.  If she is then I would spray it with purple spray.

Hi Midwife
I also have an ex-bat (aged nearly 3 years). I noticed tonight that she has a red sore looking rear similar to your description. How is your hen? Is she better or worse? Mine has been laying a little erratically recently but otherwise seems well. She is not pecked as she is not allowed in with my other two as she is too agressive.

Update on my hen. The red areas seem to be smaller and the hen is fine, so aunty was right. Perhaps she was just having a scratch.
