i don't know if anyone has come across this site but its got loads of unusual recipes and an explanation or a small history to go with it .
there are a mass of recipes to look at one of which was stuffed door mouse any one fancy that one they start around the 1400s but i have not looked at them all so there may be earlier any way i thought i would tell all about it for those amongst us that like some thing a little different for the weekend .

Thanks Chrissie, hugely interesting site. Parrot pie, potage of frogs, a tart of the brain of a capon - fascinating if not mouth watering. A real history lesson of cooking.

An interesting little book along the same lines is "Schott's Food & Drink Miscellany".

sorry about the link i just thought that every one would just type it in .
it is a very interesting site though and cringe at the thought of stuffed dormouse but i suppose in some situations you ate what you could find .
