Raids on Allotments
We are quite lucky where our plot is as it sits inbetween a group of houses and is very small.

I would like to share with you a story we had in our local paper along the same lines. There is a well known pond in Luton where individuals from eastern europe were caught catching the carp and taking them home for supper!

When you hear things like this are you surprised our allotments get raided? After all they do need veg to go with their fish!

It's news but not new. When I first got an allotment,  the site that I am currently on had a thief problem, that was some 13-14 years ago. It was one of the main reasons I chose the other site, but the thief has either reformed, or moved on to bigger things.    :D
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

allotment raids in hull

up in hull and on our site there is a problem of plot keepers leaving the gates open ,

the vandles have been up on the plot , smashing windows / glass and up rooting crops,

instead of unlocking at arrival then re locking when they leave ,it only takes 2 minutes to unlock and then to re lock the gates ,

When I took on my lotty last year one of the old bods said that years and years ago mothers used to send their kids to the allotments with a 'shopping list' of things that they wanted for the dinner so it's nowt new.

I agree too that by saying it out loud it will deffinately have given some folks the idea that maybe wouldn't have thought of it on their own

At our allotment, there's a rule in the tenancy agreement forbidding fences around plots!

We've all got fences, but it doesn't stop the rabbits or the thieves - think it dissuades the partridges though.

RE: kids with a shopping list - Picture the scene...

Which ones the chicken nugget plant?

We'll have to come back in winter to find the frozen peas!
If only we could teach the Slugs to only eat the Weeds, and then the Pigeons to only eat the Slugs!

Definitely hang like beans, far to limp and devoid of anything useful to have the strength to grow upwards.

I think fences are just a light deterrant rather than prevention. Anyway, they  do keep the foxes out. But I opted not even to put a lock on my shed, as I reckon having a lock on it gives out a message that there's stuff worth breaking it for...
