Can't find Epsom salts but chemist suggested Original Andrews Salts - is this the same stuff or will I kill off the plants?

Firstly I'm amazed that the chemist hasn't got any!

Secondly I'll admit that I don't really know what would happen. I've had a quick look up and Andrews is made up of......

Sodium Bicarbonate 22.6%;
Magnesium Sulphate 17.4%;
Citric Acid Anhydrous 19.5%

These I assume are the active ingredients, what the other 41.5% is - I haven't a clue!

Epsom salts is magnesium sulphate, so the concentration is only about 1/5th of the genuine article, so logic, (albeit twisted), would say that you'd need 5 times as much.

What the other stuff in 5 times the concentration would do, goodness only knows!

I have no clue what Andrews Salts are, but epsom will only cure your yellow leaves if it is caused by magnesium deficiency.

Which is, BTW a beauty treatment, as it does not affect fruiting.

Thanks for the detailed info.  I think I wont risk it and try and find good old Epsom Salts!  

The Yellow will have to wait another day.  Hopefully wont kill the plants off

Just to let you know that my local garden centre sells Epsom Salts!

I went into my local chemist the other day and asked for Sun Tan Lotion and they told me they dont stock it !! :shock: But like DD I am suprised they didn't have Epsom Salts !! Its a common cure all for allsorts of ailments!!

I think good old Wilko's sell it as well, I'm sure thats where I got mine- it was either there or poundland
