Hi there! I am new to this board and have just started growing my own fruit and veggies in containers.

I have 5 french bean plants in a large container and they were growing like little demons happily climbing up the canes. I have been watering them regularly and not had any problems whatsoever. At the weekend though I thought I would feed them with some sulphate of ammonia and I have no idea if it is a coincidence or not but the leaves have suddenly started to wilt badly going from one plant to another.

I really hope I havnt done them any harm but would be grateful for any advice you could give me please. One of the plants has a slight infestation of blackfly which is being treated but that plant so far seems fine.

Thanks for the reply, I dont think its wind damage, I live in the South so tho it was a little breezy over the weekend it certainly wasnt gale force. Is as though they have no life in them whatsover

I never feed beans but then I don't grow them in a container, so don't know what could have happened there.

I'd personally have a look at the roots to see what's going on down there, bean fly is proving popular this year.

It's easy to over water in a container.  That can cause root death.

welcome    wait and see is the way to go, did you follow the instructions on the packet with the sulphate of ammonia ?  too strong could cause root damage, also check the compost of the beans see if there is any grubs in it , try not to disturb the roots tho

Oh dear, I cant believe how quickly they have gone down hill today, the lush green leaves are now limp and have greyish/purple blotches.

With regard to the sulphate of ammonia, I sprinkled it lightly and then turned it over to about 1" down - I'd be mortified if thats whats done it
