squash cross pollinating?

I'm thinking of having four different types of squash in the same bed, 4 large squash in one bed/plot, will they all cross pollinate? do you think i'm better off having all the same type?

They could well do, the fruit won't look any different this year,  but any seed saved may well not be true to type.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yep, the more the merrier, except for seed saving.

And any you want to save seed from, just isolate the plant. Cover with fine mesh/net to keep out insects and hand pollenate. If they're F1 seeds to start with though, there's not much point saving seed.

I'm growing 2 different pumpkin and 2 different winter squash in the same area, but I'm not intending to save seed from them so they can mingle all they like

Posted before, but a repeat is quite relevant and they're quite pretty anyway!

This is what happened when my pumpkins crossed with trailing marrows. The fruit here is about 12" long. (From saved seed planted the next year).

they are so pretty. did they taste nice?

so those are the result of saved seed from mingled squash? not from the original mingled plants?

I've been searching for that pic for ages and considered asking you to post it again - looks amazing, giant acorns! Thank you  :D

These are the results of saved seed, I planted squashes, pumpkins & marrows all in the same area. Had some really strange results the next year, but these as IWAA says, were the most amazing. They were saved from what looked like a normal trailing marrow.

I don't know if they got eaten or not, I must ask, as these were given to a neighbouring plot holder as my excess marrow plants.

If you need to find the piccie again - it was my first ever post! Gosh that seems a long time ago!

Should just mention the odd thing - as the plant developed more fruit, the green patch on each one got smaller!

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.
