Well I head down your way sometimes as my granddad lives in LLanrhaedr near Oswestry which is half the way to you. If you are ever in my neck of the woods you are of course welcome  :D

Before the fox got them on Sunday night - my 6 hens were laying 5 or 6 eggs a day.  I work in the city so people were very happy to pay £1 for half a dozen.  I also had neighbours begging for them.  I started off giving them away free when they started laying - the eggs were a bit small and of course it got everyone interested!

As I said - now the *£&"&^"$"%) fox has killed 5 of them I am left with one hen and 2 week old chicks.  We're going to wait a couple of weeks and then get another 6 or 8 hens.  We had the chicks in the hope of increasing the flock slightly as we couldn't keep up with demand and we have lots of space for them.  PLus of course - I find it so theraputic to come home fromthe office, sit inteh garden with a glass of wine and let the girls out onto the lawn for half and hour and a chat!  I miss them so much....

aw Kym, i feel so sorry for you,  :(  our farm was deserted after the foot and mouth, it was so quiet with only the horses left it broke my heart, even my dad was gutted and he's not that sentimental over animals, you'll feel a bit better when you have some more to look after and if you need any eggs i've got 13 dozen in the kitchen (and still counting)

I mostly just give the surplus away, relatives and neighbours get them. Some go to my granny in law who is in a home, the staff cook them up and they share them.

I only sell a half dozen a week, for 60p to someone who my wife works with. However, they are great as a bartering chip!
