Oh, it's very subjective this, I also think, soil and conditions might make difference, but we like Orla a lot, also, Charlotte.

I will second that. The soil alters the taste of potatoes so much that what tastes great grown in one area may well be just plain boring potato grown somewhere else.

You do have to find a variety that suits your chef, your taste and your soil
Fluffy, waxy. Very white flesh. It all makes a difference.
If it rots compost it
If it burns burn it
If it is chocolate eat it

can anyone comment on rocket please

We had one meal of Rocket's on Wednesday.
They were planted March 9th and when i dug them up on Wednesday they were a bit small so i am going to leave them for another week or two.
As for there flavour they were very creamy with a firm texture, not quite the New potato taste I was so looking forward to but that may be because they were so small and haven't yet gained their full flavour. I would give them 8 / 10 and will post again in a few weeks to let you know what they are like when they have gotten a bit bigger.

I have those too CQ, some in the ground & others in pots.
Dug up a plant in the ground a few days ago though and just 4 titchy tatties on it - and they were planted 27/02
Tipped out a bucket of them to look and there were lots more - but just fingernail sized. Double
I'm drooling at all these pics of everyone's tatties! Hope mine come on too, cos of everything I've grown that's what I'm looking
forward to most.

I'm keen to try T&M's 'Harlequin', but cos of various probs have ordered another kind from Victoriana (for Christmas)

Can't report on taste yet Phil, cos I ain't got any yet

I am really looking forward to pulling some early taters. I love the smell as they come out the ground.  I shall be quite gleeful in fact as I unearth them, it's a bit like digging for gold  :D  Mind you if they're nibbled, nobbled, holey or mushy I'll be right upset cos I have this unrealistic expectation that they'll be perfect  :D   Daft innit. Or is it just me

Last year I grew Arran Pilots, they were superb so more have gone in this year.

I have also tried Rocket, Charlotte, Sante and Red Duke of York this year so it will be interesting to see how they all taste.

yes thinking about it I will go with gobs and amberleaf that its the soil that makes the taste. I remember the king edwards that I grew last year for the 1st time and they were really delicous ,this year I grew the pentland javellin in a mixture of compost and old horse manure. The texture is great but just lacks that blow your socks off taste so lesson learned , and yes munty the ones you grow yourselves are the best .Well thank you everyone for your comments another lesson learned cant wait for the wilga to be ready not long now
