Please could someone look at the size of this run. How many hens would you have in here if you were going to leave them in here during the day. Letting them out a couple of hours each day but less when neighbours looked after them.

I'm thinking of ordering it today so any quick advice would be greatly recieved
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

the advice i was given was 1 square meter per hen and that run's just over 4 sq m.  So i'd say 4 maximum!
1 x hubby
2 x daughters
3 x chickens
1 x bunny
6 x african snails  . . . . . and counting.

many thanks

Just as well i checked then as the company say 6 to 8 hens. Why do these companies do that - the last thing i would want to do is buy a load of hens and find they are unhappy due to lack of space.

Yeah I know, if you get large birds like ex-batt hens they will need the extra room. It would be ok for 6-8 if it were just a night accommodation or if you had to pop out for a few hours but they free range much of the day. If they are going to be in there all day though and only a few hours out you will probably get pecking and feather pulling.

The hens i'm getting are a bovans goldline and nera and an amber star to go with two small bantams so there should be enough space.

Thinking about it I guess i do let my bantams out more than i realise as today they came out at 11.30 and i won't put them back until it's time of the school run and i guess they often get let out by the children as well.

They do look nice at flytesofancy.

I'm thinking of getting this one

Cottage Henhouse

With the extension run - for 3 birds.

So I would have thought 3 or 4 birds for that one too Little Sweatpeas

although (on the advice of Dannii) I'm now going to look at Thornes.

Thornes Rare Breed Poutry Centre, Letchworth, Herts

They're local to me and build henhouses etc as well as selling chooks.

Although I really like that one at Flytesofancy - so I might get it anyway

That does look nice now the website's working !!

As said, 3 or 4 for that one but you could tack on an extra bit if you can manage it.
At least it's movable so you could rest one area while they destroy another.  :)

All your girls will be spoilt, all of you, with those houses & runs they are very lucky you are able to spend all that on them.  There is a chap up my road who keeps 4/5 medium chooks in tiny spaces with no free ranging, don't let your girls forget that :D  :D But I will bet they will know how lucky they are
Look forward to seeing the pics when all set up........its the rules you know

well i've placed my order and will now have to sell a lot of spare eggs to breakeven

I'm so excited - have to wait a few weeks for delivery so i don't expect to have the hens until the end of June. So on a positive note we can enjoy all the flowers in the garden for another month.
