I've had my 4 Black Rocks since October, and they've been laying about 20 good-sized eggs per week between them.

Then, suddenly, last week, one of them laid what my 3 year-old daughter described as a "mini-egg" - perfectly formed but only about 35mm (1.5")  long! We haven't cracked it open to see what's in it yet, but will do so soon.

Anyone had a similar experience, and do you know what causes it?!  :?

I had that happen a couple of weeks ago.
We have three hens, one day one laid a perfect egg, one laid an 80g whopper, and the third laid an egg the size of a cream egg mini egg!
None of us were brave enough to look inside the tin mutant egg! I have read before that there probably wouldn't be any yolk - but like I said...we were too chicken too look  :oops:  :oops:

I think they just do things like that to keep it interesting

Its whats charmingly called a "wind" egg or as Babe calls them  fart eggs!  
Basically its when a little foreign body stimulates the laying process...so you get a tiny egg!
I have never had one (or should I say my hens have never laid one!!!)

Ooh I had one too-and wrote a message on here last week as my mum said it could signify the end of their laying!!! However all the responses here were right-it was just a fart egg!!! And it didn't have a yolk. And I have had huge eggs ever since.
