planting out beans
« on: May 29, 2008, 20:35 »
Evening all,

I was planting out my climbing french beans today and two questions struck me, hope someone knows the answers

1. The beans are rather leggy and some of their stems have bent over.  will they recover / regrow / resprout or have they really had it?

2. I am growing them up canes in a row.  I sowed one plant per cane (probably about 12-15" apart).  Should I have planted two plants per cane (depending on how many will live after question one is answered)  :?:

Ta peeps.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If you have some spares plant them on other side off the cane to be on safe side or bung in a seed.

Legginess depends on how they have been kept until now.  My guess is that they will be fine now they are outside.  I also would plant two per cane.  I grew them last year.

1 - don't know, depends, why they are bent, if only for leggy, they should come around

2 - I do put 2 a cane and my canes are a bit closer

I started a few Dwarf French Beans in pots in the Cons and am going to plant out tomorrow along with more beans. Do I need to support them with something, they don't look strong enough otherwise.
Planted my toms out yesterday too, cross your fingers for me!!!!
Try to be organic but will use black fly killer and a few slug pellets if desperate.

I supported my dwarf beans by tying to small canes last year
