Marks on leaves "help"
« on: June 13, 2008, 21:05 »
Hi and help
Phoned the secretary last night about our potatoes thought we had Blight and that we had cut down the foliage as per John's book.He came round this morning with another chap to have a look, they were puzzled and said it is too early for blight and not the right conditions, to be on the safe side the sec gave me dithane to spray on straight away. They looked at other plots and they were clean. I thought a second opinion would help, so what do the forum think :?: It is on all pots early mids and lates. Pictures of pots last two are of an apple tree with marks on leaves on next plot Hope you can help,it as giving as a knock   ps spuds are good so far.

Frost and blight can look very alike, I'd say it looks blight all right, unless you had some frost down there recently you have hope.

Early for blight is for sure nonsense.

If it is blight you may be too late because it spreads so rapidly. Cut off all damaged leaves and burn them. Spray with dithane and earth up as well as you can. Keep fingers crossed but if you see any more new blight forming you must destroy all leaves  and dont touch the tubers for a couple of weeks. I had it last year- its heartbreaking.
Good luck

We have been told this morning that we also have potato blight on our plot in Hainault,  :( ,  which is about 7 miles from you.
We have also been told to spray our tomatoes,
Good luck, as it seems horrible.

pics not that clear but looks like blight to me, apples look like powdery mildew.  Cobnditions for blight have been high risk actually with all the rain and warm temps we had abou 2 weeks ago
