Polytunnel question
« on: May 22, 2008, 19:52 »
Hi this year i have just started growing my own in my back garden and am thinking of getting a Northern polytunnels Super 8, my questions are
has anybody got one and if so how easy are they to put up?
I am going to site it east to west, so which side should i put staging on north side or south?
I have only one place to position the tunnel will get full sun from 10 am till sun down will this be enough?
thanks for any replies in advance.

I have one of these from highland polytunnels which seems to be the same. 8x10 £300 delivered. Not too bad to put up, i managed on my own, the hardest part is the cover if on your own.

I got mine from http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk  .  Their site is nice as there is an online calculator.

edited to correct link

The one I got is rather large (20x 42) and it was a VERY big job to self erect.    Preparing the site and digging ground anchors was slow - as was every other step because we only worked weekends.

Then we had to wait a few weeks to get a warm enough and still enough day to put on all that plastic...

It's now up and half planted and I'm like a cat with two tails.

The First Tunnels kit is professional and well packed etc.  No complaints there.  I went for a side screen to increase ventilation (and the doors aren't on yet to give OH time to do "his" jobs... :) )

I would suggest staging to the North (guessing here) as it will create quite a bit of shade.

Best wishes with your tunnel.

Plant plenty.  Celebrate success.  (Let selective memory deal with the rest.)

Thanks for that Chappers it looks the same as the northern polytunnel one, how easy was it to concrete in the ground anchors or do you recommend putting in concrete footings down the sides and bolting to them

I've not got round to the concrete yet    my garden is on a slope which made getting the ground spikes right a bit harder so i just put it up and will concrete them in later, if i get round to it.
