Another kale question
« on: May 18, 2008, 17:08 »
I've just bought some robust little plants labelled kale "Redbor" at a village plant sale (the leaves aren't curly yet but I suppose that comes later???) but I'm not sure what to do with them - all the books say plant out in late June/July but these look ready now. I know they're as tough as old boots so would it be OK to put them in their permanent positions, or is there a good reason to wait?

Thanks!

I'd get them in..  My Redbor has finished now and has gone to seed and the only leaves left now are chicken fodder  :D  The birds are enjoying the seeding flowers.

For kale they are fairly low growing and tidy and their colour is gorgeous and they fairly shine in the winter sun. They look good against blue grey leeks  :D   They are not as prolific as some kales though

Mostly the leaf edges will be curly, I'd too bang them in, no reason in the world to cosset them. Don't need netting either, the pigeons seem to ignore them big way in this part of the world, anyhow. 8)
