Hi ive 5 black rocks and now a large supply of so called out of date fruit and veg this week mainly bananas (300 +) have been giving them 10 per day but these dont last long now for the silly question can i feed them too many they also have a large bowl of greens can i over feed them as i dont wish to compost if can happily feed to chickens +egg production as now increased.Your advice please

as with all things in life  a little of what you fancy does no harm i would not feed too many bananas or too many greens they need to have room in their tums for chicken layers pellets as these contain the vits mins n trace elements that they need, saying that tho green is good for them are yours free ranged or in a run ?

A good balanced diet is what is needed Do you feed them on chicken rations and mixed corn too.

Bananas are high in potassium, sugar and starch and very low in protein which is an essential part of a chooks diet.

A diet high in potassium can give renal problems so as said before -  A little of anything can be good. But a lot of one thing can be bad.

Yes there is always layer pellets in the pen +1 cup mixed corn per day. Thanks for your coments, i will try to spread them out over the next few weeks b4 composting what goes off, lets hope this weeks out of date are like 2 weeks ago toms melons kiwis grapes etc so that they can have more of a variety

Nothing to do with hens.... BUT......banana cake is lovely.... perhaps not 300 bananas worth of it, but the odd dozen or so!   :roll:

Yes all very nice but only so many bananas a family can eat b4 they start to rebel but hens always eager. Banana fritters my favourite
