Runner Beans as a Bush

On my T&M seed packet it says if you want an earlier crop of runner beans you should pinch out the top and grow as a bush. Less beans but early. Has anyone tried this. Does it work. ?

I suppose you could do that in a tall pot then the side shoots and beans would hang down from the top of the pot,but if you did it straight into the soil then I'd have thought that they would just grow on the floor and get slug damage. :?

I am going to try it with 2 spare plants. I will place the large pots on a high bench outside, and see how it goes. Has anyone done this. ?
