Not again !!!!
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:26 »
Lost one of my two remaining girls yesterday morning, i let them both out about 6:15 before i went to work and a blooming fox had one of them just after 7.  The Mrs heard them shouting and went out to see the fox running off.

Did i let them out too early, we live on an estate in Warminster so plenty of fields etc around, i thought if we let the other out a bit later when more people are up and about it may help to keep a fox away but after reading several posts they would probably steal a hen from under your nose anyway.

Thinking about a foxwatch but they are expensive, but i dont want to loose my last girl. Shes gonna be on her own now for a while which im not too happy about.

very sad again Chappers

Very sorry to hear about your hen, I will take it as a caution as I found out yesterday that ther next door neighbour has ,possibly a fox living at the bottom of her garden in a very old garden heap. A bit too close for comfort. What are/is  "foxwatch?

aww chappers so sorry.

foxes are right b*ggers, hungry enough they will strike in daylight.

im afraid its part and parcel of keeping chooks. we can take all the precautions possible, but a determined one will get through.

foxwatches are great, but there will be the odd fox that hears on a different level, though i think he lived near me  . its like the cat ones, work great but not on siamese or persians as they hear oddly.

and one girly on her own is going to be a sad lonely girl.

But it does leave a gap in the market for another hungry fox to move into

Electic fencing works well I'm told.

I have 6 acre of ground and my chooks have the run of it , I would nee far to many fox watches to be practial , they have a great life roaming about and have done so for six month without incident . I would hate to pen them in now ,

Thats very true, did anyone see the program about urban foxes, family in London lost about a dozen hens and got a bloke in who shot 2 foxes in their garden, 6 months later they had fox problems again. They are territorial so if you kill one then another will move in at some point. :x

Oh no...sorry to hear about your hens' Iv'e only had mine 2 weeks...no signs of foxes yet!! But by the sounds of things-they will find us soon! I have sprinkled a bag of human hair from the hairdressers around my garden in the hope that will deter them. But by the sounds of things-doubt that will work! Hope your find a friend soon for your last chook!
