Chicken allergy
« on: May 08, 2008, 20:09 »
Is it possible to be allergic to chickens.  As I have had mine for 4months and have been suffering with cold symptoms for the last three months.

It's not something I've heard of before but I guess it must be possible

Do you have hay fever ?

Or it could just be a cold ... not being funny, we've all had colds for the last three or four months, they're hanging on like crazy this year - catarrh, sniffles and coughs, every now and then a really sore throat.

And we've only had our chooks for four weeks (nearly) so it's not them  :tongue2:

If you're sure it's not just a real cold, though, try taking some antihistamines - if they help it's probably an allergy to something, though it could just as easily be hayfever as the hens ... the tree pollen starts in around February and from then on it just keeps coming ...
Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

Best get yourself checked out by the Doc, there's something that you can catch off all birds that appears to be like a cold but's not, and goes on for months, can't remember what it's called .

Chances are it's the dust they create or something similar to be honest.

or try taking some antihistamine tablets and see what happens.

Thank you all for your replies, yes I have had a cold for the past 11weeks hopefully it is that. As I do not want to part with my girls,  I have never had an allergy in my life, so fingers crossed the cold will go with all this lovely sunshine. 8)
