I've seen a very brazen rat in my 'hen pen' for the last couple of weeks which has almost stood and waved at me when I looked out of the window!
Have taken food away from chickens early afternoon to make sure they eat up missed pellets off the floor, have put down a rat trap smeared with peanut butter which I was assured would work, and I've  put down biodegradable rat bait (chickens can't reach it for anyone concerned!). The rat seems to know and just runs around all of these measures!  Does anyone know what else I can try?  I feel mean because I've also stopped giving my chickens lots of the food leftovers that they used to enjoy because I don't want to encourage the pests. I've kept chickens for almost 6 years and this is only the second time I've obviously suffered from this problem!
