How far behind last year are you ?
« on: May 03, 2008, 22:47 »
My veg outside seems to be about 3 weeks behind last year due to the cold weather.

Is anyone else having the similar  problems ?

I know I'm behind   I'll catch up in  year or so
I try not to let it bother me too much  :D

Yea but onions are going to be hopeless this year.

They've only got 'till June 21st to grow all their leaves then they'll start to bulb.

They'll be tiny this year me thinks  :(

Ah yes onions, I sowed my mid Feb in modules, put them out last week so hopefully I'll be ok but I don't like large onions prefer them around golf ball to apple sized.

I am not going to worry !! but we are definitely behind other years. There again in other years we have had a warm spell in March and then cold wet weather in May has put things back.
Everyone says the plants will catch up , but I'm still waiting for some to germinate even in a heated greenhouse, never had such poor germination with tomatoes .
There are some reasons to be happy, the garlic is growing well (planted last Oct) overwintering onions are taking off after months of standing still(nearly pulled them up in Feb they looked so wispy)Broadbeans sown in Autumn are flowering .
So patience is the word ,roll on warm sunny weather and pray for a drier summer than last year.
