Tom Seedlings not growing
« on: May 01, 2008, 17:39 »
Hi,
this is my 2nd year growing veg, last year my toms got very leggy so this year I put them in the greenhouse almost as soon as they sprouted, that was about 3 weeks ago, they don't seem to be growing at all, still just got their seed leaves. Some of the seed leaves are also developing brown spots, did I put them out too early?

Any guidance on when to judge they're ready to be put outside would be great!

Thanks all!

Mike

What a  te they planted in and what type are they. Don't even think of potting on until they have got some real leaves. Use tap water not rain water and don't start feeding yet either.
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

It would appear that you put them in the greenhouse too early, it has been getting quite chill at night. A more developed tomato may have stood it better.

Yes - here we go folks ALUMINUM FOIL - keep your seedlings inside, in a window sill, but put some foil behind them to reflect the light. This will help prevent the leggyness.

I've just potted up my tomatoes for outside. At least another 2 weeks before even beginning to consider planting them out, by then I anticipate them being 8-9" tall.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks, I haven't potted them on yet they're still in the cell trays. Didn't know about tap water will try that as well.

Sounds like they need to come in from the greenhouse.

Cheers,

Mike

You might want to sow some seeds, too, just in case, they don't sound grand.
