:tongue2: Cheap supermarket beer in yoghurt tubs sunk in the ground has always been the most effective method for us, as an alternative to pellets, which kill frogs & toads

I feel it's best to think you'll never win the war but do you're best to stem any tide.

However, everyone tells me to use Nematodes to kill the ones in the soil you can't see & do regular checks  round your plot.

Set up some old plant pots for the snails to seek sanctuary during the day & than get rid.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

This applies to all the other threads regarding slugs and snails.
Originally some yrs ago the beer trap method worked for me. This last yr or so so I used asda's cheapest best beer but only 1 or 2 varmints succumbed.
I tried porridge oats which is fine when there's no rain, but rain  is when they all slither out to play.
Yesterday I found another trap idea of flour, sugar & yeast in warm water, cheap and easy, again only a few succumed. This was after I found a snail in my mini greenhouse munching on a marigold seedling having already devoured a tom seedling and several labels. Needless to say I got mad    !! It was my last resort time.

Last night I wandered round my garden gathering up all the varmints I could find and dropping them in a bucket of boiling water. They were on my swede leaves, buddliea, lavender, perpetual spinach, sprout cloches, clematis, all round my tiny pond, under the rims of all my containers, and many slithering through what little grass I had left, absolutely everywhere. An hour and a half later (11pm) I was cold and had enough, for now. My bucket was several inches full with them. This morning I found a few more and will try again tonight. I'm sorry if this sounds drastic, but I've tried so many alternatives.
The blackbird couldn't believe his luck this morning, and no further damage in my mini greenhouse  :)

i use empty jars sunk into the ground filled with beer and just chuck and refresh once a week (or month when i forget) I found that i'm trapping about 30-40 a week in an area 5m x 2m so i'm hoping that i'm making a dent in the population.

1 x bunny
