Hello all, so i've finally taken the plunge and got my site. I'm very lucky as an area is already dug out, so i'll be tidying it up and putting some manure down at the weekend. Time is pressing on and i want to get some crops planted straight away. Is it possible to buy potatoes that are already chitted and are ready for planting ? if so, any recommended merchants ?

There are some bamboo poles left in form the previous owner, so i also plan to put some beans & peas in and some salad crops, and just work this small space while i clear and prepare the rest of the plot

thanks in advance for any replies

they don't need chitting, you just buy certified seed potatoes and plant em. Job's a good un  :D   I like Desiree for my plot as they are rock hard and slugs tend to eat stuff less challenging  :D

Welcome to the site Squirrelpig, any that you find in garden centres will naturally be chitting this time of the year from being in the shop, so just choose the best and good luck.

At this time of the year, isn't it a case of grow what you can get?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Welcome Squirrelpig

My local garden centre is selling off their seed spuds half price.. they had loads of variety and they looked really healthy!

I'd get down to a garden centre to see what's on offer.

Good luck with your plot  :D
