No unfortunatly despite huge efforts could not rehome they will prob be slaughtered.  My friend took them but she said she will keep them as long as possible but her husband is in charge so its just a matter of time :-(  She is getting very fond of them so lets hope she wins

:( So sorry slowef. Enjoy the ones you still have and give them lots of hugs from over here.

Why do we do this...it's so hard parting, losing them...oh dear.   We do it because of all the great times we enjoy with them because we give them the best life for as long as they're with us and...because we're completely mad!!

Big hugs,

Judi

Thanks

Getting rid of Drakes and Cockerals is the worst part to keeping birds :-( but as you say it better for the girls, they could be very ill or even die with that many and you can't be selfish about it, hard as it is.

know how you feel, I have quite a few cockerels (and I cant bear to part with them!!)and although they are very tame they are running my hens ragged at the moment I feel so sorry for my smaller hens  that I am having to get some big hens to keep them happy!

Sorry you had to let the drakes go. We had to get rid of Colin our cock as he was terrorising the smaller hens, he got quite nasty with them, he was good with his  ´girls´ if you call raping them good   anyway, he is at the moment with our neighbour, he´s still crowing his head off, but for how much longer I don´t know :(   I often think should I go and rescue him.  The hens are so much friendlier amongst themselves with no Colin to tell them what to do.

Sad decision but you have to do what is best for your drakes go but you have to look after the whole flock and not just the odd 1 or 2.

Keep smiling, your girls will thank you for it

What is it with cockerals called Colin?  My Colin has been crowing since 4am this morning and is still at it. (In fact he has been this way for the last week or so.) He is also terrorising my ex-batts and making their lives a misery. I am at the ppoint where I am looking for a new home for him.  He doesn't seem to bother the Amberlinks, just the ex-batts, they are obviously more delectable from a cockerals point of view !!
