will onion sets grow ok in clay soil. on this particular area on my plot ive dug it over twice and added manure last autumn to help break it up but its still lumpy.Every where else is ok but this area needs more work.

Yes.  Everything grows well on clay soil. It's just hard to work, plants actually seem to cope better than us, thank god.
