Not sown mine yet but doing more delish Detroits, got Pablo, Burpees Golden and the less tasty, but oh so attractive, Chioggia which is a bit radishy in my opinion but will be fine finely grated in salad, so Jamie opines  :D

i don't like beetroot, well these baby beet things they do in jars are all i have tried.  Growing some this year for OH as i love her, ok that's enough of that, i am growing Action i think it is called.  Are the roasted ones completely different taste from the jar ones then? and are they best taken when golf ball size or larger eg tennis ball?

in the jar its most likely to be pickled - try it roasted, or boiled or even raw.

totally different!  had a divine dinner of 2 large flat mushrooms stuffed with goats cheese, grated beetroot and horseradish, as i mentioned before.  should have done some roasted red onion too that would have been nice.

beetroot soup for lunch tomorrow i think too!

I think home grown beetroot is a revelation, more so than perhaps sweetcorn.  I didn't really like beetroot til I grew my own and began to cook it. Now I'm a convert  :D   I can't wait for the next crop

It's healthy too

It might be just me but I think it bears no resemblance to  supermarket stuff.  It's dead juicy for a start  :D   I like Detroit but am growing Burpees Golden this time as I'm told it's even better.  I love it roasted in the oven which brings out its sweetness.   When it's cooked gently in boiling water for about 45 mins I add a bay leaf. You can cover it in any vinegar you like, sherry, cider, raspberry and keep it in the fridge or put it in jars or eat it right off  :D
