New user,new plot yay..
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:21 »
Hello.
Im about to go and look at an allotment plot this coming sunday and i'm wondering what would be the ideal things to look or ask for? Is it to late to start planting (vegetables & herbs) now, or prepare instead for next year and wait patiently? Any advice will be greatly welcomed thank you.
ganno  :) ps the allotment manager is also offering  a poly tunnel is this good for a start this year?

Wow lucky you!  A plot and a polytunnel!  Definitely not too late for this year.  Get a good gardening book and get going!

My husband is currently working on erecting  a polytunnel for me and I really hope it will be finished in time to be productive this year.
Sally (N.Ireland) Organic as far as I know!

Plant plenty.  Celebrate success.  (Let selective memory deal with the rest.)

Not all to late.

You live quite close to me and all I have got going is some Rocket early spuds that went in last weekend.

Everything else is waiting for this cold snap to finish.

Welcome. As others have said it is certainly not too late. I have started very little as it is still too cold.
Good luck with your new allotment - be careful as they are very addictive as is this site.

I was lucky enough to get a choice of 3 when I got my allotment, I avoided the one nearest the road as I wanted peace and quiet, and chose one half way down that was a bit overgrown but was near a tap and had a shed (a must in my book) a polytunnel is definetly a bonus. There's plenty of time to start planting. It's cold and wet where I am so I've not put anything in the ground yet this year but have got the potatoes chitting ready and started some broad beans off in modules in the greenhouse. I also have tomato and pepper seedlings on a windowsill.
