Feed it only twice a week. Too much protein can produce what is known as 'rotten feather'
I use a good quality all in one dog food soaked instead of cat food
The addition of a little bit of corn or olive oil with the chicken food from time to time also works well.
IMO however the best tonic that you can give to any poultry is fresh grass. It has an amazing effect.

Hi Moulting is a natural process and yes sometimes it does happen very quickly, which if your seeing it for the first time can be quite alarming
Natural moulting usually begins sometime during March-April and should be completed by July when egg production recommences.
If apart from the quick loss of feathers your hens are on a good diet and appear happy ( stress from climate changes, environment  etc can also cause them to moult) and well i wouldnt worry too much.
Hope this helps put your mind at ease a little

Thanks Tracey they have had a huge change of enviroment so that would trigger them to go all at once i expect (they're rescue chooks and i've only had them 2-3 weeks!)

Thanks for your advice!
