I have read that in certain breeds the male chicks will be black with a light patch on the head and possibly a light patch on the rump. The female chicks may have a light spot on the head which will be smaller than the males.
The pictures are lovely Bodger and I never get fed up at looking at all the pictures that everyone posts. i wasn't too sure what I was going to see when I opened your post though!!

Beautiful chicks, i'd better not let my no1 daughter see them.  She'll want some, and so would I, on my own I can resist temtation, just (what would happen if there were cocks, I tell myself).  But with pressure from the kids I might just weeken.

Someone told me that the ones that have the light coloured spots on their had are all cockerels, if thats the case, then I have ten out of ten cocks. :cry:

           Had a look at your pics look like french marrans to me not seen one has white as the one on the left,I tend to find the lighter the brest of the chicks after a week or so tend to be cock birds The hens will be a lovley black and white speckle
