Newbie from East Suffolk!
« on: June 06, 2024, 07:37 »
Hi everyone,

I'm thrilled to have found an old-school forum where people share gardening wisdom outside of a Facebook group.

I live in East Suffolk on the Shotley Peninsula. For the past two years, I've been sharing my partner's small gardening space, a little cottage garden with flowers and shrubs. In managed a couple of grow bags with courgettes (mixed results), squash and strawberries (success!) I also failed with tomato and bean seedlings. I managed to keep some fully grown geraniums alive for the summer, but my main aim was watering plants enough to keep them alive during heat waves.

This year, we've moved to a home of our own with a decent-sized garden, allowing us more options. The little greenhouse that came with the house has been a game-changer for my seedlings. I've successfully grown tomato plants, a dwarf bean, spring onions, and several herbs. My girlfriend has lots of growing experience with flowers and shrubs and with some veg, but finds it hard to dispense the advice before I begin the task, so I now mostly Google things or check forums before I start.

Below are some spring onions are started from seed and a basil plant I grew from a cutting. I'd had a few failed attempts in the past but decided to have another go. This cutting was taken from a packet of cut Tesco Basil, rooted in water and then potted up in 50/50 compost and grit.

Welcome to the Forum  :)
Everyone has to start somewhere, seems as if you already have greenish fingers if you've got Basil to grow from a cutting  :D

Good luck with your new garden!

Welcome to the forums and good luck with your new garden!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
