Little intruders
« on: September 03, 2023, 16:57 »
Last week I was talking to the chiropodist who looks after my poor little feet. He was telling me that he is forever evicting armour-plated beetles from his house, including finding them in his bed. He described them as being black and about half the size of a cockroach. This was strange because each morning I find a couple of tiny little beetles, about 2mm in length on one of my fireplace hearths. They actually seem to come from the back of the fireplace itself. Is this a good year for insect intruders due to the weird weather? Anyone else being similarly invaded?

I found a woodlouse wandering down the hall his morning , he was uninvited & refused to pay board & lodging so I evicted him!

We get quite a lot of wood lice here and I'm always finding dead ones along the edges of carpets, and the occasion live one which I swiftly extinguish.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I often find woodlice in my house which amazes me as I'm on the first floor.  Sometimes get the tiny beetles too but not terribly often.

My house is over 250 years old so I expect the occasional wood louse. What is intriguing me is the sudden influx of tiny dark brown beetles that appear to originate from behind the fire-grate. If I thought they were in any way harmful I'd load the grate with pesticide

When I was a child living in a terraced house in Crewe we had silverfish in the fireplace but don't think these are what you have.
