Witches broom on tomato
« on: July 17, 2022, 10:54 »
One of my tomato plants 'Art pink tiger' appears to have witches broom.  Never had this before, new growth appearing everywhere, sometimes in clumps.

Does anyone know if the plant needs isolating/destroying?

I'd take that plant out, rather than chance it spreading to my others, and don't put it in your compost bin.
Maybe an insect has introduced virus/disease to that plant, I hope there are no bugs on the others. Have a close look at the rest of the plants for spider mites etc.

It can be caused by pests carrying in the disease but it can also be caused by herbicides and other chemicals.

Thanks MoS, I've binned the plant, never saw a ripe fruit either!  There are quite a few spider mite this year, especially on the peppers.  All the plants are outdoors so I tend to let the predators do their stuff unless it gets silly.

Aunty, Not herbicide/chemical, other than tom feed, not by me anyhow.

Thanks for the advice, crossing fingers against the problem moving through the crop as other than sungold, I'm still waiting for a tomato!
