Last year I planted some tulips they came up lovely last year why have they come up like this this year

Unless you cut of the dead flowers and give them a really good feed, the bulbs don't fatten up enough to grow again, most varieties aren't truly perennial in our climate..
Most people lift them and throw them away once they've flowered because they are so unreliable...
