Reading Alan Titchmarch's The Gardener's Year ( 2005 ) the other day he says that King Edward is the best spud for roasting , are your taste buds the same as Alan's or do you have your favourite ?  We like Desiree.

yes we grow and favour Desiree however the best potato I have ever grew for roasting was a variety called Record slightly being more of a yellow flesh than white it roasts and makes good chips

we used to grow this variety on the farm for making crisps and I took some home and tried them as a roast potato they cooked good and tasted fine

I have to say I haven't grew record for a couple of years now because the places I buy my seed potatoes from don't stock them but I do know there still  available

why not give them a try

Of the varieties I've tried over the years I'd have that one at or near the top.

Not as productive in pots as its Mira cousin.

I’ve grown them as well and they are fantastic roasties.  Crispy crunchy outsides and fluffy insides - yum 

They are a very prone to fall apart if you get them anywhere near water.  I do usually pre-boil roast potatoes, but these need watching carefully
