Question re: cochin
« on: February 18, 2008, 11:18 »
As some of you may know I had to return my beloved Gracie because she was a Gary.  The lovely chap offered me a beautiful blue cochin in return (a stunning looking bird - cute feather bloomers)).  As tempted as I am due to her aesthetic appeal, I do need more than one agg a day!  Clarissa does me proud (about 5 a week) but my wee Japanese bantam does zilch and when she does come up with the goodies they will be weeny.

So.  For eggs, would a cochin do the job?

Cheers me dears

I should think so. I have pekins and cochins and they give me an egg a day. They did go very quiet in the winter but are back on form now  AND they make loverly mummies :D
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

sorry to disappoint but according to Devonshire traditional breeds centre these birds only lay about 100 smallish eggs a year, average 2 a week, but they are gorgeous and really friendly and very BIG. I have one cock but am getting some hens purely for the fun, I may show them, my little warrens lay all the eggs I need and then some
