Friend has given me some rhubarb seed, think it is Gaskins perpetual. Conflicting advice given regarding soaking seeds, sowing on surface of compost and how much heat required. Anyone grow from seed?

I did years ago, I don't soak seeds first and would have sown about a quarter inch deep - like I do for most things

we have been growing Rhubarb for several years now the variety we grow is Champagne because we found this variety to be a sweet flavour for our use we just set the Rhubarb seed as normal sowings in a tray the prick them out in pots  we potted on and about 50 pots last year for a local plant charity stall

I grew some Early Red from seed years ago, and still have 2 clumps! They didn't need any special treatment, and I had several spares to give away. I did pot them on a couple of times before putting them in the beds. Like all seedlings some will be better and more vigorous than others, so choose the best for permanent positions.
