My Onions have started falling over, is this a sign of time to lift them or can they stay in the ground. Thank You

I lift mine at this stage in case we get wet weather and they start rotting. Also clears the bed and allows me to transplant some spring cabbage in there.

Just harvested all of mine over the past few days. Not had any rain here for over two weeks.

What they lack in size this year they make up in that lack of white rot. Less than 2.5% affected this year compared to 25% over the last few years.

Picked all ours friday, had them drying on a rack down the plot. Yesterday morning forecast was rain, so brought them all home and managed to store them in crates and in mini greenhouses. The rain came which turned in to an all mighty thunder storm which lasted most of the night which caused floods and not far away had hail stones like golf balls. So yes i would pick them x

we also picked all our onions yesterday they cropped very well this year quite large onions the red ones where a tad smaller than the others we  took them back home and put them on a wire frame to dry I'm glad we did this because the heavens opened up here this afternoon

we had the odd one with white rot but nothing to worry about

I generally wait until the green has gone from the stalk, to maximise the chances of it storing well.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Good morning mrsbean,
it's nice to know that you can safely leave your onions at the plot to ripen/dry! ::)

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

It is a nice friendly site Kletliwallah, no one would think to pinch anybodies produce. Years ago there were a couple of villages that used to be seen with sacks early in the morning, say no more
