Good afternoon everyone, 

while my (our) strawberry plants are denuded of all leaves, could I apply a weedkiller to the soil or will it affect the roots of the strawb's?

Depends on the weedkiller to be honest, if it’s one that works on contact with green growth you might be fine as long as you are careful around the strawberries & do it before any green appears. I personally would hoe or hand weed.
