Tomato Problem?
« on: June 15, 2020, 18:35 »
Hi,
Can any experienced Tomato growers on here tell me what this is on my tomato plant leaves. Small brown patches on the top of the leaf whilst underneath the leaf appears to be eaten. The brown patch eventually works through the leaf to create a hole. Starting to affect other plants so I've got the feeling it could be something serious. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Paul.

Hi Mrs Pea,
They are in a greenhouse.
Tried the link you gave but it didn't work.
Will check out the RHS website.
Regards,
Paul

You may have noticed in recent threads that cucumbers are notorious for wanting to die!

Tomatoes are the exact opposite, but they do like a good whinge, the evidence usually being visible in the leaves if the slightest thing is not to their liking.

That doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a problem, but for now I'd remove any seriously affected leaves, look out for bugs and be prepared to deal with them if necessary.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

This thread has come at the perfect time. My tomato plants are in a greenhouse and I have a few leaves on one of them that look like that. I already checked and couldn't see any bugs but I shall remove the leaves forthwith. :)

Don't be in too much of a hurry to rip leaves off left, right, and centre - a few white leaf spots here and there is probably just sun scorch, and the leaves can be left on the plants until it's clear they're neither use nor ornament.  ;)

Thanks JayG, I've started removing a few of the worst affected leaves and will keep a watch on the others.
Incidentally, both my cucumber plants died last week. Not having much luck in the greenhouse this season.
