My runner bean Nomad has germinated but looks very unwell indeed. Does anyone know what the problem is? It has germinated in a cell of my root trainer so has other beans nearby. Is it a problem that is likely to harm the others?

Just a dodgy bean seed, the leaves have started to rot during germination, just pinch it out and forget about it...
Some years this seems to happen quite often, so you are doing ok if it's only the one

Yes, I get one or two of these every year, some end up ok some not.

As I'm 'toast' here if Mrs Growster doesn't get her annual hundred-weight of runners per week, I just sow 100% more, then wipe a fevered brow when most come up...

But our 'Moonlight' have been pretty dire this year, and 'St George' have been much better. The stop-gap has been a sowing of seed from last year, and I may well need them...
