Onions Bolting
« on: May 07, 2020, 12:14 »
Hi,

Just noticed some of my onions have started to bolt.  I've removed the stems however can they be saved further?

If you have removed the stems they should be alright. Just keep an eye on them. Had two plants seed last year. Didn't notice anything wrong with them (the onions). Plus I had two lots of onions (20+) to plant out this year. I tried from seeds last year, gave up as they were taking to long. Bought sets but ended up with 80+ onions. Decided never to grow them again and stick with shallots. Never need to buy again with shallots. Wouldn't be growing again if it wasn't for them seeding. Again all the onions tasted okay to me.

Hi
could this be because they aren't getting enough water and have decided its time to set seed??
Its been pretty dry even up here in the north so not sure how much rain you have had down there??
