Is it too soon ??
« on: April 16, 2020, 11:09 »
I hear the argument about the economy etc,   But I personally think it is too soon to be lifting some restrictions allied to Covid 19.     China has done so, to an extent, as is now seeing new cases.  Some parts of Europe are also going to do so.      We have not yet seen if their new case load will start to rise again.
There is only going to be one way to really stop this pandemic and that will the  vaccine.    However, it still seems that it is a long way off.  Without getting political, what is your view.    Mrs Bouquet

I was one of the first to start self isolating due to severe Asthma, apart from my allotment I have stayed at home fully however I do thing some things will need to restart and specifically schools, I think we might need a strong rethink about how some of these things are done, maybe with staggered school starting times, smaller class rooms etc and children should be taught about hygine and hand cleaning through the school day. I am concerned about the big rise in domestic violence and child abuse, I am not usually overly nanny state, but there will be lots of very unhappy families who may not cope with much longer all locked in together.

I’m afraid I think we are going to have to accept that we are stuck in the current lockdown until the infection rate drops dramatically. The real challenge is going to be how to stop a rebound in cases (and deaths) once the rules are loosened. I don’t think we can expect people to wait for a vaccine so question is how to minimise spread whilst allowing more freedom. Unfortunately all the things I enjoy are not possible at present: seeing family, theatre, restaurants, travel are all impossible with any degree of social distancing. Younger people are likely to be allowed out first I reckon. whilst I think I’m healthy, the government thinks that once I’m 70 in a few days time I am particularly at risk!!
Keep digging

it is really hard for some people especially with children being locked up but unfortunately we can't be complacent over all this it is a very serious virus that's causing so much heartache to so many families

I'm afraid restaurants holidays theatre are something to look forward to in the future the best thing we over 70 can do is follow the government guidelines and try to keep safe and yes it is definitely to soon to even think about lifting the present restrictions till there are sign's of this pandemic lifting

its just not worth the risk to rush back to normal working or pleasure because the NHS is stretched as it is without putting more strain on it and our medical staff  and all the rest of the people keeping this country  going

China has done so, to an extent, as is now seeing new cases.

From what I read, the only new cases in China (that were reported form official sources" were Chinese ex-pats coming back to the country from overseas once they were permitted to do so rather than new cases arising from within the country. All incoming persons are tested and put in mandatory quarantine so it is fair to assume they are catching new cases on arrival.

Another three weeks of lockdown  the BBC have reported following the Government briefing.

Lockdown restrictions in the UK will continue for "at least" another three weeks as it tackles the coronavirus outbreak, Dominic Raab has said.

The foreign secretary told the daily No 10 briefing that a review had concluded relaxing the measures now would risk harming public health and the economy.

"We still don't have the infection rate down as far as we need to," he said.

"We still don't have the infection rate down as far as we need to," he said.

Exactly.
If we relax it now, it could flare up again and another wave will mean we'll be stuck in the house longer and more damage to the economy. It is completely irrelevant what other countries do, it's what we need to do to get clear that is important.

We at least get out unlike other countries. If we maintained our 2m we'd be in a better state. Instead of deciding my mouth is covered I can ignore social distancing or go hanging out with friends. Or people weren't deliberately trying to infect other people.

Totally agree Mrs B. I chat to an ICU nurse here in Blackpool, they tell me the last thing we need now is to start to return.
I got the impression from Bojo that it could be a little while longer before we start to change it and I hope this is the case.
I tend not to listen anything that is written by the press, they are all scum in my mind.
From what I can tell/see we are still at the top of the curve and if I recall correctly they said at the beginning we will be lockdown until the trend is at the lower part. Lives must come before money.

There's a rumour that all Covid cases may be treated at Nightingale Field Hospitals, which will free up the mainstream hospitals for 'usual' work.

This seems logical to me, we all know someone who is in desperate need of treatment for the ultimate nasties, and these citizens should also be protected to the same standards that they had before.

After all, the history books tell us of 'isolation hospitals', 'sanatoriums' etc, and while they were an uncomfortable issue to face, they were the way to go back then...

Here's one I visited last year for a small op on my hand - it's a fabulous place in which to get well again!
