Hi all

Last year I had raised beds in a friend's vegetable garden.  She just told me that this year, due to all this chaos, she plans to use all the beds herself.

So I'm going to have to  create a vegetable patch from scratch in my garden.  My partner is going to remove the grass from the top but my question is, can I just plant seeds or do I need to condition the soil in some way, add topsoil or whatever?

Also I'm thinking that I'll go for no-dig gardening so I'm guessing I should cover the soil with cardboard before I start to plant and make holes in it for the seedlings?

Charles Dowding has a new video, posted yesterday, on youtube which shows exactly how to start no dig straight onto existing grass and weeds! There is only one thing you really need and that is a lot of compost. But if yopu can get plenty of the stuff then you can grow this year and still get some veg!
