RUNNER BEANS
« on: March 01, 2020, 15:23 »
A week ago  i was looking for some pots [ i have a blue barrel cut in half and pots up to 4" in there]
anyway i found a pot with some runner beans in god knowns how long they have been there so i filled
8" pot and put in 7 beans so today i had a peek at them and the 4 i look at were puting a root out so
do i nurse them or leave them to get on with it to see how far they get,,

Understand why you have tried it.
It is though way too early to sow runner beans.
Runner beans get sowed from April onwards. Like French beans sowed in April and May they will not produce a good crop if planted now as their time for harvesting is July to October, so I cannot see your plants lasting out for five months till then and producing much of a crop.
If it is not too late, as you have said they are sprouting, you could keep the runner beans dry until April and sow them then.

Hi if they're in a poly tunnel give it a go tie them up as normal keep well watered and make a shelter to keep warm out of fleece,  remove fleece on nice days, when about 5 foot hand pollinate  there won't be a heavy crop but a few are better than none jezza
